We are frequent diners here. The Lamb’s and their passionate French chef
have worked tirelessly to provide a varied and exciting menu – all of
which is bought fresh – as local as possible and everything is made to
order. Accomodation is available. My favourites : chicken liver parfait
(superb) Sea Bass served on creamy prawn rissotto with fressh mussels,
moist carrot cake with mascarpone, cheese and biscuits average price for 3
courses + wine and tips £30 (worth every penny)
Having trawled the village pubs around Cambridgeshire over the last few years, i’ve been disappointed to find the same old pub grub that strangely resembles an Aunt Bessies fest. Looking on the Crown’s website, it showed a listing in the Michelin’s guide, phah I thought, so I booked for a Saturday night for 8.00pm.
On arrival, the pub was warm and very friendly. The restaurant staff were very welcoming without being over bearing. The menu was imaginative and catered for all tastes. My starter was sliced beef sprinkled with ground szechuan pepper corns on a bed of creamy grated apple and celeriac, which whilst sounding odd was in fact fantastic. The main course was guinea fowl, which came with bacon wrapped french beans and vegetables. Again, presentation was wonderful and the quantity of food was very good. Dessert was a Blackberry creme caramel, freshly made and extremely tasty.
Having tried a number of other restaurants, this one has raised itself far above the others not only with very well presented, well balanced food but the no rush friendly atmosphere. I will most certainly be revisiting and would highly recommend this establishment.
