Comptoir Libanais, an exciting mix of café, shop and delicatessen in London W1

Canteen • Shop • Delicatessen

A Mecca For Food Lovers

Best known for the intricate and sumptuous interiors of his Levant, Pasha and Kenza restaurants, Tony Kitous has
taken a total departure from his usual style with Comptoir Libanais – a truly modern Lebanese canteen, shop and
delicatessen. With brilliant red and brushed-chrome industrial stools, bold-patterned turquoise tables, monochrome
geometric flooring and an eye-catching mural inspired by a Middle Eastern movie star, you know you’ve entered a
brave new world in affordable contemporary casual dining.

However, once inside, a beautiful kaleidoscope of mezze, salads, dips and breads reveal Tony’s insatiable
appetite for bringing the classic flavours of the Middle East to the capital. Floor-to-ceiling shelves inject further
colour, showcasing a treasure trove of new products, all Tony’s favourites from a lifetime of travels across the Middle
East. From harissa to halva, figs in chocolate to pink rose jelly, all sitting alongside tagine mixes, cookbooks and
pickled vegetables, this visual spectacle begs to be explored.

This new Lebanese all-day dining concept is an exciting intake of breath, delightfully perfumed with fresh mint and
pomegranate. Kitous says

“I wanted to make it fresh and contemporary, yet welcoming all the same. There’s a little
touch of the souk with embroidered handbags from Marrakech and ingredients to cook at home, but the ambience
is light and airy. I want to see people enjoying a pot of mint tea with friends, a quick tabbouleh salad and hommos
or a more leisurely evening meal – you don’t have to sacrifice comfort, style or authenticity of food just because the
dining is casual”.

The Food

Often cited as one of the world’s healthiest cuisines, Lebanese dishes typically use an abundance of fresh fruit and
vegetables and are grilled or baked with olive oil, herbs, lemon juice and spices rather than heavy sauces. Comptoir
Libanais’ ethos stays true to this tradition, with a range of home-style dips, salads, soups, warm wraps and hearty
tagines alongside pastries, cakes and freshly baked breads. The menu incorporates a myriad of flavours from the
Middle East, allowing guests to explore everything from the familiar classics to more elusive dishes.

Signature features include Comptoir’s fabulous array of baked items. Home-baked breads include hot man’oucha
flat breads with a selection of toppings from zaatar to spinach and halloumi and Lavosh bread bursting with olives
or dates and figs. These jostle for space with jewel-coloured cakes and pastries fragrant with the ingredients of the
Middle East – contemporary choices such as walnut, date and orange tarts, rosewater macarons and honey and
pistachio eclairs feature alongside the traditional Lebanese pastries like baklawa, bourma, namûra and bokaj.
Savoury dishes include a must-try mezze platter featuring hommos, baba ghanuj, falafel and cheese samboussek.
Fresh salads including tabbouleh, fattoush and lentil & wild rice are perfect summer treats while hot wraps such
as the prawn falafel, halloumi, lamb kofta or chicken taouk burst with flavour. Heartier dishes include aubergine
moussaka and a range of tagines served with organic couscous or rice.

Drinks

An impressive selection of freshly-squeezed juices and smoothies sit alongside a host of coffees, fine teas and
fresh mint tea for all-day refreshment. Freshly-blended lemonades include a choice of pomegranate and orange
blossom, lemon and lime, or apple, mint and ginger whilst organic fat-free frozen yoghurts with date, halva or pistachio
toppings and smoothies in flavours such mango, strawberry and banana are sure to be de rigueur this summer.

For those desiring a beer or glass of wine, Comptoir Libanias’ ‘bring your own’ policy allows diners to enjoy their
favourite tipple with no corkage charge – the perfect way to have a great meal without breaking the bank.

Shopping

A cornucopia of Middle Eastern delights provides a backdrop of colour and intrigue. From tahini to tableware and
harissa to halva, there is an impressive array of specialist goods, many exclusive to Comptoir Libanais. Added to
this, a range of oils, vinegars, dried fruits, sauces, spices and sweet delicacies make Comptoir an eclectic haven of
gourmet gifts. Foodies and fashionistas alike are sure to admire the stunning collection of hand-made, beautifully-
crafted Moroccan bags, ideal for shopping or a trip to the beach.

Design

A daring colour palette of turquoise, orange and red creates a contemporary look throughout, with block prints and a
larger than life image of actress Sirine Jamal al Dien – inspired by a vintage Middle Eastern movie poster – bringing
to life the clean white walls. Seat yourself in the airy canteen or settle into the midst of the merchandise by pulling up
a stool at one of Comptoir’s community tables featuring vibrant geometric shapes. Alternatively, the window seating
is ideal for people-watching whilst enjoying a coffee or fresh mint tea over the daily papers.

Comptoir Libanais is an exciting mix of café, shop and delicatessen and is destined to become a hotspot for lovers
of Middle Eastern food, living and culture. With exceptionally feel-good prices – individual mezza dishes and salads
from only £3.30, wraps at £4.50, mains just £6.50 and a mezze platter to share for £8.50. Comptoir Libanais is
designed for the times we live in, offering substance and sustenance, style and shopping all under one roof.
