The Last Days of the Raj, Gateshead – The Best Curry in The UK
GATESHEAD RESTAURANT PLACED IN UK’S TOP 100 RESTAURANTS
Forget Brick Lane in London or Birmingham’s Balti Triangle, The Last Days of the Raj, in Low Fell, Gateshead is officially one of the best places to get a curry in the UK.
After more than 18,000 public nominations covering 3,000 plus restaurants across the UK, The Last Days of the Raj has been named as one of the UK’s Top 100 asian restaurants at this year’s British Curry Awards.
Athair Khan, owner of The Last Days of the Raj, said:
“I am honoured to win this award. It is a wonderful achievement to be named as one of the UK’s best restaurants and a pleasure to bring national recognition to the region”.
The presentation of the annual British Curry awards is the biggest night of the year for Asian restaurateurs across the country. This year’s ceremony included a video appearance from Rt Hon David Cameron MP who said: “The tremendous contribution the British spice industry makes to our country is clear for all to see – the jobs and prosperity it has created, and the sheer enjoyment it provides to millions of Britons, virtually all of whom has a favourite curry or favourite restaurant.
This latest award cements the excellent reputation held by The Last Days of the Raj restaurant for providing high quality food and service.
Mr Khan believes the success and popularity of the restaurant is down to hard work and culinary talents of his staff. They have worked together to develop an extensive menu which includes the traditional favourites with added Raj specialities such as Southern Curried Duck for more adventurous customers.
The Last Days of the Raj is an award winning restaurant which provides an extensive menu of traditional Indian dishes including Balti, Thali and vehetarian selections.
The Last Days of the Raj has been consistently placed in the UK’s top restaurants by the Britsh Curry and Best In Britian Awards for 11 consecutive years.
Thoughly deserved
Couldn’t agree more – along with the Valley Junction, Jesmond it’s the best Indian restaurant I’ve visited throughout the North.
I have to say how disappointed I was with this restaurant, the food was no better than an Asda take away at best. The main course curry, was extremely pitiful tasteless and lacking somewhat in the main ingredient..Chicken.
