The Harwood Arms, Fulham, London – A new culinary partnership takes over
A new culinary partnership takes over at the The Harwood Arms, Fulham, London, SW6
Three friends have taken over the management of Fulham boozer The Harwood Arms, publican Edwin Vaux, Brett Graham from Notting Hill’s Michelin starred Ledbury restaurant and Mike Robinson of the renowned Pot Kiln in rural Berkshire.
All three are passionate about food and pubs and had been talking for months about having a little pub in London where they could serve tasty rustic food made from the best British ingredients alongside great beers and excellent wine.
Unsurprisingly, given the gastronomic credentials of the Harwood Arm’s partners, the focus will be very much on the food, with rustic, wholesome dishes created from the best seasonal produce available. Changing menus will showcase superb produce, much of it caught, hunted or foraged in the Berkshire countryside surrounding the Pot Kiln by Mike.
Frequently changing specials will allow the kitchen team headed by Steve Williams (formerly of the Ledbury) to incorporate the pick of the day’s produce with current examples including ‘Roast T Bone of Henley Fallow Deer with crisp potatoes, black cabbage and mushroom ketchup’, ‘Slow braised faggot of jugged Berkshire Hare with carrot puree and juniper‘ and ‘Stuffed chicken leg cooked in mead with mashed potatoes, girolles and lettuce’.
However they are all determined to maintain The Harwood Arms as a traditional pub and drinkers are as welcome as diners to enjoy a terrific real ale, currently including Black Sheep from Yorkshire, London Pride and Green King Ruddles or a great list of bar snacks including ‘Venison Scotch Eggs’, ‘Root Vegetable Crisps’ or ‘Kipper Croque with homemade ketchup’.
In keeping with this the Harwood Arms aims to be affordable and offer outstanding value. Starters cost from £5.50; mains from £13.00 and puddings from £5.50 with wine from £14 a bottle and beer staring at £3.60 a pint.
The pub is decorated traditionally with muted colours to give a homely ambience and to reflect the sporting pursuits used to supply the pot the bar also features a series of black and white photographs by leading country sports photographer Charles Sainsbury-Plaice best know for his cover shots for the Field Magazine.

We had a horrible dining experience at this so-called gastro-pub. Although there is a secluded dining room, we were seated at a table in the middle of a crowded and very noisy bar with drinkers standing all around us, jostling us and making a huge amount of noise. We were totally ignored by the staff and were only given menus after asking and after a long delay. After we had been waiting for over half an hour with no service of any kind the owner, Mike Robinson, breezed in with a party of friends and was served immediately.
When we pointed out to Mike Robinson that we had been waiting for over an hour for service and that our table was unsuitable, uncomfortable and very noisy we were rudely told “this is a pub – what do you expect”. After waiting in this horrible environment with no food for an hour and a half, we left. We will never go back. The Harwood Arms is a disgrace.
The previous diner has a personal issue with Mr Robinson himself and should therfore be removed. There are many favorable reviews posted by customers who actually dinned at The Harwood on other sites. These are angry and unbalanced views.
