We went here on 27th October 2010 after work for a quick meal. The restaurant opened recently in Harrow after having another
restaurant in Amsterdam. I wonder why they picked Harrow as you normally see such places in central London. The decor and ambiance was simply stunning. The place is filled with ethnic Indian artifacts, fabrics and paintings. It is almost like you are transported to India as soon as you walk in. This went down with my wife very well as she is an artist herself and loved the ambiance.

The food is Punjabi / North Indian and the menu features Punjabi specialties like Butter Chicken, Saag meat but it also has a lot of moghul dishes (my favourite) and some local dishes from various parts of the country. we had the Mixed Grill to start. The Seekh Kababs were full of flavour and the hot chicken wings were very juicy.

For our main course, we had the Punjabi Chaamp Masala which was one of the best I have ever had. It took me back to my trip to Delhi 8 years ago as the spices were strong, the gravy was so rich with flavour. My wife had the Murg Maharaja which was very nice. It was like a korma with nuts, saffron and edible silver leaf on top!!! The rice was soft and the cheese nan was salty and creamy – just right.

There are a lot of Indian restaurants in Harrow but most of them offer south Indian/Gujarati cuisine or there are a lot of Bangladeshi curry places that aren’t that authentic though. This restaurant is a breath of fresh air. I spoke to the owner and she said that they tried to keep the cuisine as authentic as possible to give people a taste of India instead of just a curry. I think they managed very well.

We attended The Elephant’s curry night last Monday , the meals were only £1 and being donated to an elephant charity. It was a lovely evening and packed with people!!

The food was lovely and waiters were all very friendly and this place ‘s decor is so stunning, they should really open a branch in Central London. Their concept, menu is very trendy. We all enjoyed the chicken dish and rice and wishing them all the luck with supporting this good cause. Look forward to their next event.

By far, the best punjabi restaurant in Harrow. Big juicy Lambchops and hot wings were impressive. Good sized portions and attentive friendly service make this place a good regular

Thought I would try The Elephant after a menu was posted through my letterbox, it had a number of dishes new to me, different from the standard Indian restaurant fare.
The decor and furnishings were pleasant, it was nice to see the owners had spent a bit of money on the place. There were no other customers on this Sunday night.
Now for the food: I was given a papadum, which was slightly stale, it didn’t have that “just cooked” taste. My curry dish was a big runny mess which I could almost have drank, and it couldn’t have had more than half a dozen lumps of lamb in it. The vegetable side dish was similarly runny, and the combined liquids ran through the rice to fill the base of my plate. I hate to waste food, but I could only manage half of this mess, it was vile.
I certainly won’t be returning, and I can’t see this business surviving in the long term..
