I visited Swank last night, 13/10/08. It used to be called The
Bull hotel (which i think it’s still part of) and it has now been refurbished
to a very high standard,with cosy brown sofas in the lounge area and
modern table and chairs in the dining area.

There is also a bar as you go in where you can sit before you eat, with 2 large flat screen tvs, although
this dosent take away the classy edge. There is one thing that I think
wouldnt be to eveyones taste and that is the lighting. There are tealights
dotted around and on the tables, but at the bar and in various places some
curious colour changing lights, bright blue, green, red? I think they are
trying to create a modern atmosphere but its not really my style. The
service was pleasant, although the waiter could have been more
knowledgable, but the most impressive thing about SWANK is the food!
Absolutely gorgeous and not overpriced, £7.50 starter and £14.00 main!

I had duck spring rolls with homemade mango chutney, they were delicious,
light crispy pastry, not greasy and plenty of filling, the mango chutney
was really good. I had steak for main course which was perfectly cooked
with pomme neuf (9 chips in a stack) and mushrooms in a crispy onion
basket, served with a small salad garnish and a pot of peppercorn sauce,
and vine tomatoes. My friend had the lamb which was also gorgeous and just
pink enough, 10/10 for food which was by the way piping hot! only
criticism- it was quiet but as it was a Monday understandable, I’m sure
once everones sampled the food it will be the busiest place in town!
