Heavenly Pizzas, the award winning Aberdeen gourmet take away and delivery business, established in the mid 1990’s, has opened a new outlet in Edinburgh’s Tollcross. With five outlets already well established, the new Edinburgh take away is the brainchild of James Cummings who aims to make Heavenly Pizzas national.

However as the pizza company expands, with an aim to have a total of 20 outlets by 2012, making Heavenly Pizzas one of the largest independent operators in the UK, what will never be lost is the quality and creativity, which lies beneath the brand. Heavenly Pizzas goes beyond the traditional, producing fun and exciting new pizzas unique to the company, including The Heavenly Healthy Pizza. James has quickly identified that developing a ‘health food niche’ within the pizza industry is imperative within an increasingly health conscious society. Working closely with The Healthy Living Awards, James set to be awarded a healthy living award by the end of the year, with a new look menu on the horizon.

“We were growing tired of the word pizza being used in the same sentence as fish and chips, and burgers etc, if you stick with a very thin base and don’t load up on the likes of pepperoni, then pizza can be a very healthy meal. We are now about to awarded the Healthy Living Award, and can use their logos next to the pizzas that are considered to be healthy, this means our customers can eat our Heavenly Pizzas with a clean conscience!!”

Pizza. Although a weakness for many, eaten in moderation, health researchers have concluded that pizza can be served a nutritious meal or snack. The Mediterranean diet is rich in olive oil, fibre, vegetables, flour and freshly cooked food, all of which make up the delicious pizza. Tomato sauces provide an excellent source of lypopene, a powerful antioxidant. Although we don’t typically associate pizza with a healthy diet, it is possible to indulge in a healthier option. James makes no secret of his healthy living recipe. “There’s no big secret, top the pizza with all your nutritious vegetables, use half fat cheese and a thin base.”

“Our aim was to provide a restaurant quality pizza for the home delivery market. We make our pizza dough fresh everyday and cook our product in traditional Italian pizza ovens, most of the chains use frozen dough balls and conveyor belt pizza ovens.”
