Gordon Ramsay impressed with The Pheasant Restaurant

INTRODUCING THE PHEASANT

On-site butchery. Weekend bakery. Air strip. ‘Rent a chef’. Meat from a ten-mile radius. Impressed?

Gordon Ramsay certainly was. So much so The Pheasant in Keyston, Cambridgeshire (just an hour from London) recently won The F Word’s Best British restaurant beating 5,000 other finalists to be named runner-up in the show’s Best Local Restaurant Award.

For Jay and Taffeta Scrimshaw, owners of The Pheasant, locally sourced, seasonal British produce is a passion not a bandwagon. Meat is sourced by Executive Chef Jay (formerly of Bibendum and Chez Bruce) from a ten-mile radius. From March onwards, diners may even be lucky enough to see the calf that will later grace their plate grazing at the end of the pub garden. Alternatively, take a walk around the picturesque village of Keyston and perhaps catch site of the rabbit for tomorrow’s rillette. In fact, tip up with recently shot game and they promise to make the most marvellous pie, butcher it for you to take home or let you swap it for something equally delicious on their menu.
