Relax if you think detoxing is going to be more painful than Christmas TV. Experts say you’ll be more successful if you make small changes. Begin with our seven day kick-start guide, one easy step at a time.

Day One: Sleep…give your body a break with decent shuteye. Change the light bulbs in your bedrooms to a low wattage. Before jumping in the sack The Sleep Council recommend a hot bath with tablespoons of Epsom Salts (£1.50 from pharmacies). No kipping in the bath, though.

Day Two: Order a weekly box of Abel & Cole detox vegetable deliveries (£50 for six weeks), ensuring more than a month’s worth of organic fruit and veg arrives at your door each week. See the deliveries as a health reminder. “Start small with one extra serving a day, and build up,” says Abel & Cole’s, culinary advisor, Erin Norton.

Day Three: Here comes the sweaty part. Build up to exercising for 40-minutes every other day, by swimming, walking, or running. “Exercise releases toxins through sweat,” says detox expert, Suzannah Olivier. For inspiration on walks plan see: www.getwalking.org.uk, or www.ramblers.org.uk for a country escape.

Day Four: Munch food slowly. “Chew it really well to get all the nutrients and ease the burden on your digestive tracks,” says Norton.

Day Five: Make a habit of drinking two litres of water a day, around 150 ml every waking hour. You’ll flush out toxins quicker. For even faster delivery eat high bran cereal at breakfast, and slice on a load of Abel & Cole fruit.

Day Six: Here’s the rub…unwind and detox at the same time with a massage, blend drops of grapefruit and rosemary essential oils, with a massage oil, known to help detoxify the liver. Ask your partner to rub you up the right way (see: www.nealsyardremedies.com).

Day Seven: Liven-up pub-free drinking with home-made health fixes. “Juice fruit and vegetables and you’re highly likely to increase the concentration of antioxidants,” says Professor Ian Rowland, nutrition expert at Reading University. It also makes them easier to digest, www.abel-cole.co.uk deliveries come packed with sensational recipes for smoothies, juices, stews and soup to get the most from groceries.
