Elysee Restaurant, London re-opens after one year refurbishment

75 YEARS IN THE MAKING… ELYSE?E IS OPEN

London’s original Greek restaurant and cocktail bar is re-opening after an impressive refurbishment.

The Elysee, which has become synonymous over its 75 year history with fantastic Greek cuisine with a modern twist, is “more than just a restaurant, it’s a concept”, according to co-owner Kerry Karageorgis.

As one of the longest standing restaurants in London’s fashionable Fitzrovia, the Elysee boasts a 150 cover restaurant downstairs and as a result of the refurbishment has added a second floor cocktail bar with private dining area, dining room and 700 square foot roof terrace. The executive consultant chef, Rufus Whickham (formerly Ketners) has added a contemporary twist to traditional Greek mezze, with dishes including lobster souvlaki, pot roast quail with pomegranate and oxtail keftedes. Accompanied by a sensational wine and cocktail list prepared by Jerome Armit (formerly Crazy Bear).

The family run business (established 1936) , which has seen ownership by three generations of the same family, is no stranger to glamour and has played host to rock stars, royalty and sporting heroes. Guests include the Greek Royal family, Prince Phillip, Mick Jagger, the Beatles, Princess Beatrice, Elton John and Rio Ferdinand, to name but a few and was the restaurant of choice for England’s winning world cup team of 1966 as part of their victory celebration.

Speaking ahead of the re-launch Mr Karageorgis added:

“We are delighted to be re-opening the Elysee after a year of hard work to make the restaurant even better than it was before. The concept behind this is simple; build on our tradition, keep doing what we did, but better. Serve great food, deliver excellent service and entertainment and make sure everyone has a brilliant night out”

Note:

The Elysee was first opened in 1936 in London’s Percy Street and has remained in the same family for 75 years. Now owned by three cousins, Giggs Karageorgis, Kyriacos Pattihis and Kerry Karageorgis the original concept of traditional Greek cuisine, fine wine and entertainment lives on with a few modern twists added to the mix. The Elysee is the oldest Greek restaurant in London and one of the most celebrated in the world.
