For anyone who enjoys drinking fine wine whilst nibbling on a selection of Tapas, look no further than the City of London. Situated a stones throw from Leadenhall Market, Barcelona Tapas Bar and Restaurant host a different tutored wine tasting every month. The night we visited we tasted four terrific Rioja’s including a Reserva and a Gran Reserva. The wine maker himself, Miguel Merino, (who had flown over especially), was there to guide us through each wine, telling us a little about what we were drinking and the methods and production of his vineyard. With each bottle a different plate of Tapas was served including wonderful Spanish cured meats, partridge and breaded lamb chops. This was a very agreeable way to spend an evening, with plenty of superb wine on offer throughout the event. What with good food, good company – (about 25 of us seated round a communal table), and a bit of culture thrown in, this makes for a good excuse (as if you need one!) to really get stuck in to some good Spanish vino and learn all about it at the same time.
