Alison Graham failed to be impressed by Witney ASK

I have been to various ASKs over the years, and today Saturday
10th January 2009 I met two girlfriends in the Witney branch for lunch.

Although food was excellent as ever, unfortunately service stank. Our
table was booked for 1pm, and it wasn’t ready for us, clearly the staff
had forgotten we had reserved. We were seated after a short wait and
greeted politely by our server. Unfortunately it went down hill from
there. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. By 1.40pm I had to
catch our waitress’s eye to order. Food came quickly and was great. We
then waited again for our plates to be cleared, and again, had to ask to
order dessert – our waitress then told us she would be with us shortly,
she didn’t come straight away. Food was again excellent, although my
friend’s latte came in a cappuccino cup which was bad. No one came to ask
if we wanted anything else, and by this time it was 3.20pm and our
waitress was sitting at an adjoining table to us with her back to us,
feeding her face.
I had to go to the bar to get the bill. And we then
had to walk to the bar to pay it, no one came to collect it. We left a
small tip, purely because the guys in the kitchen worked so hard, and when
they (eventually) got our order they filled it really quickly and well.

All in all, it was a serious disappointment. As a customer of the Oxford
branch for over 10 years with never anything less than fantastic service
and food, someone needs to go into Witney and sort out the front of
service staff. It’s really letting the kitchen team down. I won’t be going
back to Witney ASK again.

I have never met Alison Graham and don’t know who she is, but unfortunately her experience at Ask in Witney in January 2009 and our experience at Ask in Witney in June 2009 are entirely related.

Appalling service from start to finish make a dining experience last an hour longer than it should have.

Ask will get no further business from us.

I do not usually write reviews but did feel compelled to respond to the above comments.
I am in no way affiliated with Ask, but we have been going to the Witney branch for years and they have always been excellent.
I suggest that these 2 occasions were unfortunate and few and far between; things that can happen from time to time at any restuarant.
They have always been accomodating to children, and special requests. Also we have had many group bookings of up to 30 people and they have always been very good.
It seems you were unfortunate on the occasions you 2 visited and I’m sure the same would not happen again.
    Regards

I have always favoured the Witney branch as it’s light and airy, but I agree with the service.

We went there for lunch, during the week (fairly quiet) and the service took far longer than it should’ve done. The food, when it eventally arrived, was great, but everything seemed to take a long time.

It is my local Ask so yes, I will eat there again, but the service/staff really does need to improve.

I’ve booked to go there with my wife this Saturday evening – I really hope the service is better than the comments above. we regularly use the Lewes, east sussex restaurant which has always been excellent. I note that poor service is generally happening at lunchtimes when they’re less busy, probably with fewer inexperienced staff and no manager!!

    Service EXCELLENT!
It’s a pity that experiences are sometimes less than perfect – but people only tend to comment when things go wrong..
So for balance; I took my family to ASK (Witney) today, for mother’s day.
The service was great! We were kept well informed, they catered beautifully for my two nephews! Nothing was too much trouble – they kept us well informed, made certain that we got the best deal for our money, brought us anything that might complement the meal. Not pushy, but good job of checking for additional needs too!
I overtipped and commented to my parents that I have rarely (if ever) seen a waitress work so hard to ensure a successful meal!
(And I’ve eaten at some good joints)
    Hope this helps.

Have eaten at Witney ASK many times. The food is always excellent, the service, less so. Sometimes brilliant, normally slow, even after we’ve asked for the bill. Back there again shortly, may choose from online menu so we can give it them as soon as we’ve been seated!
