Boisdale Goes Light For The New Year
The traditional British restaurant teams up with The Light Centre to produce a new healthy eating “Energising Menu” based on the theory of human evolution
On Wednesday 16 January 2008, Boisdale of Belgravia will launch the new Energising Menu in partnership with Mark Thompson, Naturopath and Principal of The Light Centre in Belgravia, London. The Energising Menu will run in addition to regular Boisdale menus.
As neighbours, Boisdale and The Light Centre have devised a menu that is based on Thompson’s groundbreaking healthy eating course that covers 6 million years of human evolution; starting with the diets of our hunter-gatherer ancestors, through to the onset of farming and the advent of modern food processing.
Each dish on the menu possesses ingredients that would have been part of a hunter-gatherer’s diet, many of which are sourced from Scotland, which are chosen, prepared and cooked to retain the maximum nutrition possible. On the menu, the way each dish is cooked is explained, allowing customers to learn more about their food before they eat it.
Working closely with Thompson, Colin Wint, Head Chef at Boisdale of Belgravia, says: “With our carefully sourced ingredients, we believe we have come up with a menu that will appeal to our usual customers as well as those who would not normally come to Boisdale for a lighter meal. If you are not having a classic Boisdale lunch, there is now the option of a lighter and more energising menu.”
Thompson explains: “Food prepared in many restaurants will have lost up to 80% of its nutrition by the time it reaches your plate. It will also have various other unwanted ‘trimmings’ such as high levels of salt, trans-fats, heavy metals and other toxins. This menu will taste just as good, if not better, than these highly adulterated foods and offer much better nutritional value for your pound.”
Ranald Macdonald, owner of Boisdale says:
”Although I’m a traditionalist at heart, even I have noticed that many people’s tastes are changing, including some of our Boisdale regulars. Certainly you can’t have a proper lunch every day! However, that does not mean traditional favourites will be missing from our regular menu or that I’m about to close our new cigar terrace!”
Thompson adds:
“All animals have their own individual indigenous diet and years of zoological research have shown that it is only when they are given this diet that they become healthy and fertile. Humans are the same, yet more than 70% of a typical person’s diet is made up of non-indigenous foods. It is thus not surprising that we have so many diet related illnesses”.
