A less than glowing review of Winteringham Fields

Winteringham Fields

I visited Winteringham Fields with my family on 30th Nov
2007. There were 8 in the party and a special occassion to celebrate two
birthdays my 40th and my brothers 47th. We share the same birthday.

Five of the party had visited before under the previous ownership of Annie &
Germain Schwa
b and had a great experience. This time was totally different!

The food was either lukewarm or cold both starter and main and served on
cold plates. The wine waiter twice brought the wrong wine having twice
asked which wine we would like. When the the food arrived the waiters mixed
up the starters and mains. We had to wait nearly 1hr for dessert and then
not that nice. The starters and mains were okay but cold and most of us
left them. We complained to two different waiters and no one apologised or
came back to us. The toilets were dirty and the urinel not flushing
properly and no hand towels. The bar area had two portable fan heaters
which looked totally out of place and cheap. The whole experience was a
complete disaster poor food poor service! The bill was nearly £1000 and
they deducted just a £100! I have written to them twice and spoken to the
Proprietor (Mrs Bex McGurran).

Mrs McGurran offered one free meal to the person who paid the bill which was my brother and
seems to think the rest don`t matter! She has then offered to refund the
bill after several letters and phone calls and still hasn`t done it!
Her
excuse for the awful meal was 9 staff off sick including the chef and
equipment failure! She herself was working that evening but didn`t bother
to come and speak to anyone and admitted that everyone complained. I have
eaten in a few top restaurants and never had an experience like that
before and hope to ever again!
