On the 17th of July 2007 my wife
and I stayed at the Black Boys Inn
Hurley; the accommodation was tastefully
decorated, spacious and had a very
high standard of house keeping.
The Michelin awarded food was excellent!
We had tartare of blue fin tuna
with a liquorice and saffron dressing
and River Dart salmon to start.
Followed by rump of Devon lamb and
line caught sea bass. And for dessert
a
fantastic selection of cheeses from "La
Fromagerie" and date and pecan
sticky toffee pudding.
The food was, as we expected from
the Black Boys various awards including
a Michelin bib gourmand, but it was
the atmosphere in the restaurant
that
made the experience so enjoyable
for us. It was very refreshing to
enjoy
quality food and wine in attractive
surroundings with out stuffy waiters
and over the top complicated menus.
If you enjoy great food, but want
relaxed surroundings and value for
money then the Black Boys is a must!
The starters start from around £7.50,
and £15 for mains. The wine
list
which has itself won awards is very
extensive with over 35 wines by the
glass. Only about an hour
outside London.
