Brunello Restaurant
at The Baglioni Hotel - a Beautiful
Restaurant Facing Kensington Gardens
How do I begin to describe the
lavish, but quirky opulence of
The Brunello Restaurant at The
Baglioni Hotel? Well, take a
pinch Gothic and a twist of fantasy
and you’re getting there!
The Dining-room is like a spacious
and fancy stage set: beautiful
black Murano chandeliers, high
backed gold comfy armchairs,
and heavy draped curtains that
look like their made from Dracula’s
very best cape. Within the last
few months a new chef, Andrea
Vercelli, (ex Harry’s Bar
and Rosmarino), has simplified
the menu of comforting Italian
classics whilst focusing on keeping
prices affordable. The set lunchtime
menu is particularly good value
with plenty of choice.
I began with a totally creamy
and fresh tasting crab and avocado
salad, artistically served on
a
beautiful rectangular plate with
a choice of Italian artisan breads.
My guest had a plate of baked
aubergine with fresh tomato and
cheese which
he commented was very delicate
on the palate and I could see
was very well presented on the
plate.
My main course was a dish of
baked sardines with char-grilled
spring
vegetables, which was simple
in its execution but light
and delicate
in its flavours. Rib-eye steak
came served imaginatively presented,
cut as if into fingers, and
was thoroughly enjoyed by my
enthusiastic
guest. He said it was perfectly
cooked, full of flavour and
came served with tasty chips
and salad.
Puddings included Millefeuille
with vanilla custard cream
and wild berries and a classic
Tiramisu.
There is a vast selection of
wines to chose from at all
prices. We
stuck with the Italian theme,
choosing a highly flinty and
quaffable Cantina
Terlano Pinot Grigio D.O.C.,
the sort of wine one could
imbibe all
afternoon given its easy drinking.
Somewhere as atmospheric as
The Brunello is a sure-fire
romantic
dinner destination. A place
to really dress up for the
occasion
and savour the memory afterwards.
