Dine Online's recommended hotels in Larnaca

Larnaca is rather a nice town - large enough to have most things one might need, but small enough to have retained its charm. There's quite a grand esplanade left with an old fort and mosque. The road continues perilously close to the sea, but nobody seems to drive off into the water! If you continue along the road towards the airport there are a number of little hotels and apartment blocks on Mackenzie Beach in Piale Pasha Avenue, all of which offer simple and cheap accomodation. They have private beaches, and the water is shallow with clear sand underfoot. The planes come in and out over the sea, so they are not passing overhead - and they're not that frequent! The local telephone code for Larnaca is 4, or 04 when dialling from abroad. NB: prices are in Cyprus Pounds

The Sandbeach Castle Hotel

With its turrets and castellations, the Sandbeach castle looks a bit anachronistic, but at least it has more character than the faceless tower blocks. The seaward facade is covered in climbing plants, and the terraced restaurant with its traditional Cypriot arches overhangs the waves. Bed and Breakfast (B&B) for two sharing a double room starts at £CY24.00, singles from £CY18.00. All the rooms are airconditioned, with balconies, bath and WC.

The Sandbeach Castle, Piale Pasha Avenue, PO BOX 813 Larnaca Cyprus. Tel: (04) 655436/7 Fax: 65904

Flamingo Beach Hotel

This is a slightly larger hotel, located on the other side of the road from the beach, but having uninterrupted views over its own beach, but you do have to cross the road, although the traffic is light. Rooms are all airconditioned with private bath and WC and seaview balconies. There is a small roof top swimming pool, and quite a nice restaurant. B&B for two in a double room £CY44 per night - half board £CY58, full board £CY68.

There's air conditioning, a lift to all floors, balconies and a private beach on the other side of the road. Low season prices start from a one room studio for two for £CY15 a night, to a two bedroom aprtment for four in high season for £CY44.
