Situated in London’s Little Venice, the recently revamped e-bar presents an attractive drinking and dining location for the coming summer. New manager, Lourenzo Mello Cabral has brought about a welcome sea change: recruiting ex-Haymarket chef Yadav Vijay Rammuri (who has produced an exciting world tapas menu), redesigning the interior and creating an enticing cocktail list. All of which should help to put this friendly and stylish venue on the West London map.

Occupying a ‘sun terrace’ area in front of a hotel, to make the most of those welcome rays, the bar proper can be found in the basement below and boasts a casual eating and bar area (with an impressive skylight giving an open airy feel) and a more intimate and romantic dining room further into the venue. One can imagine the venue providing a stylish setting for business lunches and romantic tête-à-têtes. Equally it would feel comfortable to gather with friends to watch the sports events that they show once a month in the bar, on a thankfully, inconspicuous, screen.

The tapas are great value between £1.75 and £5.50 and include classics such as Tortilla Espanola (Spanish omelette, £2.95), and Habitas Con Jamon (Fried little broad beans with Serrano ham, £2.95) as well more innovative dishes like such as Banderillas De Embutido (Jamon Serrano ham, Fuet, olives, piquillo pepper & Manchego cheese on a skewer, £3.00).

We made our selection of the dishes whilst sipping on two fantastic martini cocktails: the rum-based Ginger Traitor-tini and the gin-based Jasmine Shocker (winner of 2nd place in the London Spice Bar competition). Both were well-mixed and delicious with interesting ingredients such as caramel, jasmine tea and passion fruit. These were also reasonably priced, at £7.00 each and formed part of a lengthy and impressive list of long and short drinks that should make the e-bar a must-go for cocktail fans.

When the food arrived, it was extremely well-presented and the portion sizes were exactly as you would expect for tapas: large enough to share but small enough so as not to be overwhelmed by one dish. Whilst all the dishes were tasty, there were highlights: the Seafood Tapa (£7.00) was one of them. Beautiful to behold, this tasted just as good as it looked; three components: smoked salmon with sour cream on crostini, white anchovies presented on a skewer along with a caper and olive, and most stunning of all gorgeous fresh cockles in a pesto sauce on lettuce. This dish more than any other showed just what the chef is capable of. Other winners were the Prawns Tempura (£5.50); moreish with a feather-light batter, and the Pimentos De Pequillo (Stuffed pequillo peppers with goats cheese orange zest & cumin, £3.75); where the sweetness of the pepper and the richness of the cheese were perfectly balanced by the spiced citrus.

For those with the hunger for it there is also a more substantial set menu at £14.50 for 2 courses (£17.50 for 3), which boasts high quality options such as Rib Eye Steak and Sea Bass. Desserts are equally enticing, the well-named Peachsnapper Cheesecake being one.

The e-bar may be slightly tucked away – they would do well to make it more visible from above – but do not let that stop you from visiting. This little gem is just waiting to be properly uncovered.
