A Greasy Fry-up – Just What The Doctor Ordered
Jacklyn Swiecicki pays the price for living the good London Night Life
As I write this piece, my head is throbbing, my stomach is churning, and I feel as though I could sleep for a hundred years! And yet, I cannot wipe the smug smile off my face. Why you ask? Well no, I don’t have the flu, nor do I have some terrible illness. Rather, I am suffering from the fabulous repercussions of a jam-packed night out sampling London’s phenomenal night life!
Hence, a greasy fry-up is just what the doctor ordered!
I have cleverly put on my dark sunglasses and walked down to Cafe DK on Wilton Road in Victoria. The menu choices make my decision easy – the Big Breakfast sounds perfect! For £5 you get the whole shebang! Eggs, beans, mushrooms, bacon, chips, sausage, a hash brown and toast. To make up for the high fat-content of this breakfast, the meal is topped off with a grilled tomato. Whilst most diners leave aside this accompaniment, I appreciate it as a breakfast addition, which reminds me of a traditional Aussie brekkie.
The decor of this cafe is quite simple. The service is no-frills and friendly. And, whilst I feel the tables are too small to handle these massive-sized portions, the food is pretty much simplistic and greasy without trying to be anything more.
Whilst all of the breakfast options satisfied my cravings, my eggs were served on deep-fried toast – the ultimate in fried food – but it was just a little too much ‘fried’ for me. Whilst Cafe DK is a satisfying, budget-friendly post-party breakfast destination, other scrumptious fry-up options are the American-style diner, Lucky Seven on Westbourne Park Road, W2 or Balans, in Soho (W1D 4UG), which stays open all night to cater to your midnight and mid-morning cravings.
Now that enormous amounts of tasty ‘feel-good’ foods have finally settled my stomach, and I have spent my entire Sunday: sleeping, eating, sleeping and eating – I think I might go and get some sleep.
Sweet Dreams

Hilarious, I love your work and your writing is so quirky.
Keep up the good work.
“… a little too ‘fried’…” is there such a thing? :o) Great review and glad to hear the brekki cleared your hang-over … it’s never failed me yet!
